The Mecosta County Planning Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Mecosta County Services Building Conference Room. This is located at 14485 Northland Drive, Big Rapids, MI 49307. Click here to see the agenda.
The Building and Zoning Department is authorized and directed by the State of Michigan and the County of Mecosta to enforce the provisions of the Michigan Residential Code, the Michigan Building Code and the Mecosta County Zoning Ordinance. The purpose is to provide minimum requirements to safeguard life or limb, health and public welfare.
The Building Official shall have the authority to render interpretations of this code and to adopt policies and procedures in order to clarify the application of its provisions. Such policies and procedures shall not have the effect of waiving requirements specifically provided for in the code.
Authorized Building Department personnel shall receive applications, review construction documents and issue permits for the erection and alteration of buildings and structures, inspect the premises for which such permits have been issued and enforce compliance with the provisions of the code.
The Zoning Administrator shall administer the Mecosta County Zoning Ordinance. This includes issuing all zoning permits and insuring compliance with the Zoning Ordinance before issuing a building permit and maintaining records thereof.
Appropriate action may be initiated by the Zoning Administrator to prevent, restrain, correct or abate any illegal act or violation of this ordinance.
Monthly Meeting Schedule
Building & Zoning Committe Meetings are held the 3rd Thursday of each month at 10:00 a.m.
Planning Commission Meetings are held the 1st Thursday of the month at 6:00 p.m.
Zoning Board of Appeals Meetings are held the 1st Monday of the month at 6:00 p.m. as needed.
